Trezor Model T overview

For Trezor One users, the Model T will look both different and familiar. The Model T is noticeably larger than its predecessor, but still small enough to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand.

The biggest difference is the black and white screen of the previous model and the color touchscreen that replaces the two keys. Support for SD cards has also been added, but this feature does not serve any purpose yet.

For now, traditional recovery phrase backup is still required. The device randomly generates 12 words that need to be noted down and stored in a safe place. Users can use these words to access their funds if something goes wrong with Trezor. It is important to note that without a backup, access to coins will not be possible.

Trezor Model T uses open source software that supports thousands of coins and tokens. Users can manage their funds from the company’s web portal or third-party desktop and mobile applications. Users who want additional features (e.g. multi-signature Bitcoin transactions) can access functionality not yet available on the Trezor portal with popular wallets like Electrum.

Those using two-factor authentication can use the device as an additional layer of security when logging in, in accordance with the U2F standard. The device also serves as a password manager.

Pros and cons of the Trezor Model T

  • Can be used on many different platforms and applications
  • Supports many individual blockchains and different tokens
  • open source software
  • small dimensions

  • With its price, it is among the more expensive devices on the market.
  • Typing on the screen can be difficult
  • Currently the SD card slot serves no purpose

Final ideas

The Trezor Model T follows in the footsteps of the original model. SatoshiLabs released this new hardware wallet in 2018 that improves many features of Trezor One. The Model T offers most of the features one would expect from a modern crypto wallet with its color touch screen and support for thousands of coins.

The Trezor Model T offers a much smoother user experience compared to its minimalist alternatives for users who can allocate a slightly higher budget to their hardware wallet.
