Dogecoin mining is to be rewarded with new Dogecoins by confirming transactions on the Dogecoin blockchain. Isn’t it simple? Although it sounds like that, it is actually not that simple.
Dogecoin mining is like a lottery. You have to do a certain amount of work to play the lottery. So your computer (or node) needs to do the job! This job includes the approval and control of the transactions I mentioned in the previous section.
Many computers are running at the same time in the same transaction block, but only one is rewarded with new coins. Earn new coins, the node becomes the computer that adds the new transaction block to the old transaction block. This is done using complex mathematical equations.
The node that solves the mathematical problem first wins! The newly approved block of transactions can then be added to the rest of the blockchain.
Most cryptocurrency mining works this way, but Dogecoin mining is slightly different from other coins in some key areas. These areas are:
- Algorithm: Every cryptocurrency has certain rules for new currency mining. These rules are called mining or hashing algorithms.
- Block Time: The average time required for a new transaction block to be checked and added to the blockchain.
- Difficulty: This is the number that represents how difficult it is to mine each new currency block. You can tell from the difficulty number whether you will win the mining lottery or not. Mining difficulty can increase or take depending on the number of miners. The difficulty is also adjusted by the coin’s protocol to keep the block time the same.
- Reward: The amount of new currency that is awarded to the miner of each new block.
Whenever a node attempts to validate the Dogecoin transaction, it is participating in some kind of lottery. Anyone who guesses the code given to the newest transaction block added to the blockchain in this lottery wins the prize. Knowing the code correctly, 10,000 DOGE is given to the node that wins the award.
These Dogecoin lotteries take place every minute. In other words, a new batch of Dogecoin transactions are confirmed every new minute.
